Our model is called Interchange+ pricing. Every time a customer taps, swipes, or dips a card, the card network (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex) charges a wholesale rate called interchange. That rate is set by the networks themselves — nobody negotiates it down. What matters is what your processor charges on top of it.
Most processors bundle everything together into one opaque rate so you can't tell where interchange ends and their profit begins. That's how fees creep up without you noticing.
